Andy Reid Announces Big News on Starter After Friday's Practice

The Kansas City Chiefs starting left tackle has yet to be determined for Sunday's game against the Browns. D.J. Humphries, who got the start last week, sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday Night Football, which caused him to miss practice this week.

During his press conference Friday, Andy Reid was noncommittal to who the starter would be Sunday, telling reporters that he is still weighing options at left tackle for Sunday vs. Browns. Reid added that they rotated several players in that spot this week.

While it seems certain that Humphries won't play Sunday, Reid not commenting on who the starter will be is worrying. The Chiefs' options at left tackle include Wanya Morris, Kingsley Suamataia, and Joe Thuney.

Suamataia is almost certainly not an option, as whoever starts at left tackle will have to face Myles Garrett. That leaves Morris and Thuney as the only real options.

Although Thuney might be the safer option, moving him away from the interior against the Browns is not smart. Garrett is by far the biggest threat on the Browns' defensive line, but their defensive line isn't stout in the middle, either. Taking Thuney away from the interior against the Browns could mean significant pressure up the middle for Mahomes.

That leaves Morris to face Garrett, which is a scary proposition. Even though he performed well in his limited snaps last week, facing Garrett is a whole different beast.

Whoever ends up starting at left tackle on Sunday may also be called upon in one or both of the next two games. The Browns game is a stretch where the Chiefs play three games in 11 days, and each opponent has a strong defensive line. Starting a different left tackle each game wouldn't be smart for the Chiefs' offensive success.
